There are a number of employment assistance agencies in Kamloops which provide specialized services (subject to individual eligibility) to unemployed individuals, including:
The agencies listed on this page all work under individual Contribution Agreements with Human Resources and Skills Development Canada to deliver these services to eliglble unemployed (or under-employed) clients in the Kamloops region.

Description of Services The Pathways Program is an intensive, four-week program designed to help individuals in career transition with identifying their own skills, interests, and personalitiy characteristics, understanding the current labour market, and implementing effective work search & career planning strategies.
Targeted Clients This program is open to eligible unemployed Canadians who are considering a potential career change, are returning to the work force after an extended absence, have worked traditionally in industries where opportunities are now decreasing, or who simply want to find work with meaning and potential.

Description of Services For those who are serious about pursuing self-employment as a full-time endeavour, Community Futures administers the Self-Employment Program for Human Resources & Skills Development Canada. Community Futures provides business coaching, business planning workshops, and financial support to individuals during the planning and startup phases of their businesses, plus additional EI benefits for the first several months that the individual is operating his/her business. All services and financial support are based on individual need and a viable business concept. Direct contact with Community Futures is recommended for more specific information.
Targeted Clients The Self-Employment Program is open to unemployed individuals who have an active EI claim, have had an EI claim in the last three years, or who established a maternity or parental claim in the last five years.
How to Apply A referral from a Case Manager at The Kamloops Work Search Centres is required for admission into this program. Additional restrictions around individual employability status may apply.
Financial Assistance for Training

Fax 250.372.0272 Description of Services This program provides funding for skills development training for individuals needing to upgrade their skills to improve their chances of finding employment. Funding is available for a broad range of training, which could include (but is not limited to) long-term training for such programs as Licensed Practical Nurse or Aircraft Mechanic, or short term training such as First Aid. Funding is available to cover tuition, books and supplies, and provide a living allowance. Restrictions and limitations apply based on individual circumstances.
Targeted Clients Individuals who are currently on EI, have had an EI claim in the last 3 years, or have had a maternity or parental claim in the last five years are eligible. Additionally, individuals must not be currently enrolled in school or training, must be legally intitled to work in Canada, and must reside in the Kamloops labour market area, which includes Ashcroft, Lytton, Lillooett, Chase, Barriere, Clearwater, and Merritt. Other eligibility criteria apply and are based on individual needs and circumstances.

Description of Services THEO BC provides training, education, and job placement services to British Columbians with disabilities or multiple employment barriers so that they may achieve employment, independence, and personal growth.
Targeted Clients THEO BC, in Kamloops, provides employment assistance for people with a range of disabilities. Services are provided to individuals who are unemployed or under-employed (less than 20 hours/week) regardless of EI or Income Assistance status. Employment crisis support is also provided to individuals who may be experiencing difficulty in their job and which require disability-related interventions to assist in maintaining the position.
