What to Expect In Your First Appointment
|
Welcome to the Kamloops Work Search Centres! We look forward to working with you. Here are some answers to frequently asked questions about first appointments within our Centres.
|
1. Who is my appointment with? Your initial appointment will be with a Case Manager/Employment Advisor.
2. What does a Case Manager/Employment Advisor do? Case Managers/Employment Advisors are skilled counselling professionals with experience and education in the field. They provide one-to-one appointments and follow up support in the areas of career exploration, skill enhancement, job search and job maintenance. They can also do referrals to workshops, community programs and skill assessments (depending on circumstances, individual needs and employment goals).
3. How long will my first appointment be? We ask that you plan on being in your appointment for 30 to 60 minutes. Please arrive 15 minutes before your appointment to fill out paperwork.
4. What paperwork will I be asked to fill out? You will be asked to complete a Membership Application Form, which collects your contact information and other information related to your employment history. You will also be asked to complete a Membership Consent Form, which outlines the Centre’s confidentiality policies.
5. What should I bring with me? A copy of your resume, cover letter(s), reference letters, certificates… the more information the better! If you have been on Employment Insurance (EI) recently, your Case Manager/Employment Advisor may ask for verification. This information can be viewed on-line in the Centre. Ask at the Reception Counter for more information.
6. Can I bring a friend/support person into the appointment with me? You are welcome to bring a support person into the appointment with you if you choose.
7. Will I be called to confirm my appointment? You will receive a phone call confirming your appointment time and date unless the appointment was scheduled the day before. If you prefer to not have a reminder phone call, please let us know.
8. What if I can’t make the scheduled appointment time? We understand that “life happens” and should you not be able to make your scheduled appointment time, please contact the Centre to re-schedule, no later than the day before your scheduled appointment. A message can be left at the Centres (North Kamloops 376-3111, South Kamloops 372-3803).
